Witcher 2 graphics mods. However, let's move on to the most important thing, the changes

Alright, time for a guide on how to mod The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. This guide will be quite different from my “ ” because I haven’t been able to check a whole play through with these mods.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings takes place almost immediately after the events of The Witcher. The games features a less linear storyline, with three independent plot lines, leading to the multiple endings. A year later, CD Projekt RED released the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2, featuring over 10GB of new content, including 4 hours of gameplay and 36 minutes of cinematics including a new intro created by Platige Image and outro. But they also made a totally new arena mode and a new tutorial, and fixes to gameplay and the interface.

Note: This guide is for the steam client. What I mean with that is that my examples of file locations are based on the steam version of the game. GoG uses other names for the map where it installs The Witcher 2 (It would be weird is GoG installed a game in the map called “Steam\SteamApps\common\the witcher 2” hu). If you are using a GoG version, just change the location of my examples to your folders and you should be golden.

Graphics Overhaul

Weapons

Here it is the same as for the armor part. I’ll give you the screenshots from the author, you are free to choose either you want them or not.

Quest

Installation Order

You should have a map called “CookedPC” in your Witcher 2 folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\the witcher 2\CookedPC). If not, make that folder. The next list is the download and installation order as I did it. Once again, this part of the guide is not completely tested for the whole game. So, IF you run across problems, please tell it in the comments.

Note: Due to compatibility issues I have removed the mod FCR. This means the shown screenshots might be different then what you have

  1. CEO – Complete Equipment Overhaul – Download: CEO – unpacked and Mutagenology – CEO-compatible – Installation : Extract the CEO- unpacked-89-1-6g.rar file. Place the content of that in your “the witcher 2” folder, not inside the CookedPC folder. You should merge both CookedPC folders. After that does the same for “ Mutagenology – CEO-compatible” and when asked to overwrite, say “Yes”.
  2. Better combat for EE with Darkness : – Download: Better combat for EE with Darkness Installation: Extract the archive. Place the content of the “Better combat” folder inside your “the witcher 2” folder and overwrite the files from CEO.
  3. Mutagenology Update for 3 4 EE: No need to download or install this, we did this with the compatible patch of CEO.
  4. Your “CookedPC” folder should look like this at this point in the guide:
  5. Dynamic HUD & Comfy Couch – Download: ComfyCouch v09b includes Dynamic HUD v12 from Comfy Couch Installation : Extract and place it in the CookedPC folder. This file contains both mods.
  6. Better Texture Environment – Download: Better Texture Environment and High Texture Weapons Installation : Extract both and place the content in the CookedPC folder.
  7. Extreme Quality Flora – Download: The Witcher 2 – Extreme Quality Flora – Installation: Unzip the downloaded file. Go to the folder: C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Witcher 2\UserContent. Place the folders called “extreme_quality_flora” in that “UserContent” folder.
  8. Battle Ravaged Geralt – Glowing Eyes and Lots of Options – Download: CreativeMode_v06 Installation : Extract the files the rar “Updated Battle Ravaged Geralt-21-1-2” from and place those in the CookedPC folder.
  9. Grass Color Fix – Download: MAin
  10. Grass color fix for Vergen – Download: Grass color fix for Vergen Installation : Extract in the CookedPC folder. Overwrite when asked
  11. For all the armor and weapon texture mods, it’s the same principle. Download the version you like and extract the content of that file in your CookedPC folder. When asked to overwrite, say “yes”.
  12. This concludes the download/installation guide for the mods. Now we have to configure the game a little bit.
    • We are going to increase the standard rendering distance of both foliage and mesh! Makes will bring out the most of the game
    • First, open\documents\Witcher 2\Config folder
    • Open the “User.ini” with a notepad editor
    • Look for the header , and search for the following two fields:
      • FoliageDistanceScale=
      • MeshDistanceScale=
    • If they're there, edit them. If they're not there, add them. And in either case, make them look like this
      • FoliageDistanceScale=3
      • MeshDistanceScale=3
    • Save the file and close. The standard settings is 1. 3 is a nice improvement and offers a great balance between look/performance. But if you wish to improve your frame rate, you can use 2 instead. Or if you want to render even further, try 5.
    • Note: if you ever open up the config menu in The Witcher 2’s launcher, make changes and save, you may need to redo this step in the User.ini file, as the launcher config has a tendency to overwrite custom data.
  13. Your CookedPC folder should look like this
  14. Before you start, you have to activate the mods in the launcher. Start The Witcher 2 Launcher and click on Mods, select everything and click “Save and run”
  15. Kinship of the Wolves – Download: Kinship of the Wolves Installation: I strongly recommend installing this one AFTER you have finished the game, because it conflicts with EQF
    • Unpack the mod files to: “/Documents/Witcher2/UserContent” directory;
    • Open “UserContent/KotW/strings” folder and copy the file that matches the language of SUBTITLES of your Witcher 2 game;
(e.g. If your game’s subtitles are in French, copy “fr_user.w2strings” file. If you’re not sure what file to copy, choose “en_user.w2strings” file and make sure that your subtitles language is set to English)
*Mod is in english only, but this “.w2strings” files pretend to be in your chosen language*
    • Paste the copied file to “/Program files/Witcher2/CookedPC” directory
    • “Kinship of the Wolves” adventure should be now available in the “Mods” section of the Witcher 2 launcher. Deselect everything else and just tick “Kinship of the Wolves” and click “Save and run”
    • To play the adventure choose New game -> User Content -> Kinship of the Wolves;

Lastly, as promised, a quick guide install the Reqiuem ENB:

  1. Download this file:
  2. After that, download “ Requiem ENB – Version 1.0″ from the mod page of Requiem ENB
  3. Go to the “Steam\SteamApps\common\the witcher 2\bin” folder and copy all the files from the Requiem ENB – Version 1.0.rar file in this “bin” folder. Overwrite when asked.

And now a quick guide install the EnVision ENB:

  1. Download this file: ENBseries Binary File – The Witcher 2
  2. Once downloaded, extract it in a temporary folder
  3. ONLY copy the d3d9.dll for the folder “\WrapperVersion\bin” and paste it into the “Steam\SteamApps\common\the witcher 2\bin” folder
  4. After that, download “envisionenb02 ” from the mod page of EnVision ENB
  5. Extract that file in a temporary folder as well.
  6. Go to the “Steam\SteamApps\common\the witcher 2\bin” folder and copy all the files from the envisionenb02-746-0-2.zip file in this “bin” folder. Overwrite when asked.
  7. Launch The Witcher 2's launcher
  8. Make sure Anit-Aliasing is on, vignette is on and ubersampling is off. If you don't do this, the ENB fails to work properly.
  9. Turn off steam overlay for the Witcher 2, because it causes glitches

Know Issues

* Some players (including me) have problems with the mouse on the main screen. Because this is a quite common bug, follow these steps to prevent the bug from happening.

  • When steam gives you your CD-Key, press the “don’t show it next time” option. This should disable the steam overlay, which might be causing the bug, but I have read some conflicting statements regarding this.
  • On your first start up of a new installed game, watch every cinematic completely. Not doing so will trigger the bug.
  • On the main menu, press and hold “shift” to move the mouse.

I didn’t do any of those thing, and I had to reinstall the game completely because non of the option worked (due to some weird way)

* If you have any visual problems like these 2 (last one is when you cast the Yrden spell)

These graphical bugs are both caused by the Better Texture Environment. Delete the following two items to resolve the issue:
\CookedPC\items\work\remains_human_01 (folder) – if this folder is active when Gerald stands against a background of water a few black annoying artifacts appear.

\CookedPC\items\geralt\geralt_signs\yrdentrap.w2ent (file) – if this file is active Yrden trap creates big colorful texture block.

Conclusion

I hope that you have a wonderfull next playthrough with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition. I want to say that this guide still is a work in progress, I haven’t been able to confirm is everything works correctly for the whole game. But please do tell me when there are some problems in the game. And feel free to leave any kind of comment or suggestion.

The Witcher 2 - Full Combat Rebalance - a mod that changes the combat system

The Witcher 2 - Full Combat Rebalance - a mod that changes the combat system

The news may not be entirely timely, since the mod came out a long time ago, but right now it has reached acceptable quality.

While waiting for The Witcher 3, many may want to replay The Witcher 2, so why not refresh the experience of the game?

You can ask a completely reasonable question: how does this wonder differ from a bunch of crafts on the same topic, of which there are thousands on the Internet? The answer is quite simple: the creator of this mod is the direct creator of The Witcher 2 as such, so the mod is made in professional level, bugs and inconsistencies are minimal.

However, let's move on to the most important thing, the changes:

    1. There is an arrow on the mini-map pointing north

    2. Geralt’s animation reaction speed has been increased by 80%, and NPC’s by 50%

    3. Monster attacks cannot be parried with a sword.

    4. You no longer need to use a block to parry attacks, and parrying and deflecting arrows is carried out automatically, with a random chance that changes based on how many parries were made in a short period of time

    5. No attack interruption if your blows are parried. The same goes for opponents.

    6. When using a block, Quen is activated

    7. Reducing the importance of rolls in combat

    8. Enemies' survivability is now calculated based on their defensive abilities and armor, rather than their number of lives.

    9. Mages and assassins no longer use shields on cooldown, but can block your individual attacks, including Signs

    10. Summer and Assassins can now counterattack if you perform a continuous series of attacks

    11. Head-Eyes and Endriag Queens now go into block only after several attacks, and not immediately

    12. Enemy swordsmen will no longer be able to knock you down (although they weren’t particularly successful before)

    13. Reducing the number of skills

    14. Geralt initially has access to the entire “Training” branch

    15. All skills now have one level, not two

    16. Most passive skills have been eliminated and replaced with more active ones (I still don’t understand what this means)

    17. Aard and Igni's projectile shape and radius have been changed

    18. Riposte no longer requires a Defensive Stance (read - block)

    19. New animation riposta

    20. Experience points are now given only for completing quests

    21. Geralt no longer buys special witcher recipes, he remembers them as he progresses

    22. Enemies are now balanced according to their attire, weapons, etc. In practice, this means that a knight in armor will not be weaker than a bandit in a light jacket just because the bandit appeared at a later level

    23. Geralt’s initial equipment has been changed: now initially the backpack contains a drawing of a silver sword and a couple of recipes

    24. The importance of skills has now been brought to the level of the importance of equipment

    25. Armor is now divided into 4 categories: leather jackets, heavy leather jackets, combat jackets and heavy combat jackets. Heavy armor imposes a damage penalty on Geralt

    26. Imported items have the same characteristics as in the first part. The value of such things has not changed

    27. Duration of action of elixirs and oils increased to an hour

    28. Added overdose and severe overdose from elixirs at toxicity thresholds of 55 and 65, respectively

    29. Removed the fatigue effect

    30. NPCs cause full damage to other NPCs

    31. Now you don’t need to take half your life to throw an enemy off a cliff with Aard

    32. Riposte no longer takes energy

    33. When calculating damage to monsters, Silver throwing knives are regarded as silver weapons

    34. Added Penetration effect - weapons ignore character armor

    35. Geralt's hand damage has been reduced from 5 to 0

    36. Fire, Bleed and Poison can now act simultaneously

    37. The distribution of experience for quests has become more even. Now there is no such thing that you will receive 50XP for one quest, and 2000XP for another

    38. Moral choices made in quests directly affect the reward and experience gained

    39. The Witcher began to receive information about monsters faster

    40. Removed additional bonus from backstabs

    41. Changed the reward for each level in the arena

    42. The number of enemies at some arena levels has decreased

    43. The wet boots of the soldiers became heavier than the dry ones :)

    44. Starting DLC equipment is now sold in shops and is also awarded for completing quests

    45. Reducing the number of armor and weapons in the game, now the equipment is adjusted in accordance with the progress of the passage

    46. Some quality items that used to be quest rewards are now available in shops

    47. Reduced the cost of swords and armor

    48. The amount of loot dropped by enemies has decreased

    49. Traders now have a certain specialization, based on which they have a certain assortment

    50. Special witcher recipes cannot be bought, but they cannot be sold either.

    51. Added Fighting stance. Geralt enters it automatically based on the current situation

    52. In a combat stance, instead of a roll, use a pirouette

    53. Enemies killed by the spell explode, but this does not apply to Witcher signs - they are not so powerful

    54. Scripted swords in cutscenes have been removed. Now the videos will feature the swords that Geralt currently has

    55. Opponents are equipped with swords according to their social status

    56. Reduced the effect of camera shake when meeting large creatures

    57. Removed the green cloud effect during poisoning

    58. All combat animations have been debugged

    59. Sword oils now actually increase damage

    60. Fixed a bug where Geralt would take 2 steps after rolling before stopping

    61. Transition to non-combat state reduced from 7 seconds to 2

    62. Now the distribution of skills can be done without switching to meditation mode, regardless of the difficulty level

    63. Some items have been renamed. Removed the class of Magic and Epic items

    64. Reduced the importance of the sight

The mod is installed on game version 3.4 and higher!
